Caterina Glorioso, the Army soldier who committed suicide on Tuesday morning by shooting herself in the chest with her service pistol, was 30 years old and served in Operation Safe Streets with the Garibaldi Brigade.
The young soldier, born in 1989, was unmarried and originally from Vitulazio, a municipality in the province of Caserta with just over 7 inhabitants, and was part of the Second Pontieri Regiment of Piacenza, where she had been serving for five years. Her name was made public only in the late morning so that the authorities could inform her family. The reasons for the tragic act are said to be contained in a 15-page letter that investigators found: there are said to be personal reasons at the origin. The letter is now being examined by the deputy prosecutor of Rome, Nunzia D'Elia, who has opened a file in which, as happens in these cases, the crime of incitement to suicide is hypothesized. "I want to remember you like this, always smiling. Why Caterina? May the earth be light on you," her friends wrote on Facebook, who cannot understand the reason for the suicide.
