Prisco Bruno's new novel "The Mystery of Ruth", Graus Edizioni, is a love story, intimate and intense, shared by the two protagonists, linked by one of those unions that, wanted by fate, cannot resign themselves to being conditioned by time limits but are in fact "destined" to last forever. A man talks about his woman and, when she prematurely leaves him for an incurable disease, he tries to talk about himself.
This is the story of two solitudes, of two souls, cultured and sensitive, who meet and become a common body, called to generate, not without difficulty, lives not all alive and some marked by serious physical difficulties, which will be resolved thanks to the constant, daily commitment of the two spouses.
Heroic, in her noble daily life, appears the figure of Ruth, a truly exemplary wife and mother and, in unison, the image of Ian emerges with ever greater inner consistency, who fully contradicts every false and superficial idea of machismo, forced, as he will be, to defend himself from the increasingly declared advances of a greedy and sensual femininity.
Ruth and Ian seem to be far from the world, from its pressing demands for reality: one, intent on cultivating her own unalterable inner purity; the other, chasing dreams, which date back to his childhood and youth with poetic peaks worthy of exemplary literary heroes, uncontaminated by the pressures of everyday life, light years away from any emotional and sentimental logic.
A cosmic love could not then be content to remain confined to the earth. The mystery of something, which is inside and outside life, is the true core of a narrative, which from beginning to end measures itself against it, exploding in the final chapter, in which the full awareness that life, especially when it is dominated by this extraordinary feeling, can go beyond itself and two souls, born to be together, can continue to dialogue and give strength, thus overcoming the inevitable shipwreck to which physical death exposes. Here lies the strong message that Prisco Bruno wants to give and leave, against any depression, any consequent decadence of the body and mind, which can follow the end of a unique, indispensable and unrepeatable person.
Presentation Thursday 19 November at 17.00:60 at PAN (via Dei Mille, XNUMX) – Di Stefano room – in Naples. The author will be joined by Prof. Francesco D'Episcopo, Prof. Ugo Morelli; the journalist Maria Parente will present.
