They had a treasure in storage and didn't know it: rare jewels with an economic and artistic value yet to be determined, but certainly well over one hundred thousand euros. They only realized it when the Cava branch of BPER bank sent them the bill for the arrears on the safe deposit box rent. Due to alternating closures and changes in ownership, the treasure, the result of a bequest to the former "Santa Maria Incoronata dell'Olmo" Hospital in Cava dei Tirreni, was inherited by the Ruggi Hospital of Salerno, to which—as of January 2001—the town's hospital was annexed, as part of the Campania Region's healthcare deficit reduction plan.
