Cold air arriving from the North Pole and temperatures plummeting, up to 10 degrees below seasonal averages. This is the scenario painted by the experts at www.ilmeteo.it, according to which polar air masses will reach the Mediterranean basin this weekend, causing a significant deterioration in the weather in the Marche, Abruzzo, and Molise regions, with showers or thunderstorms starting this evening. Snow will fall on the Apennines above 7-800 meters, but some showers are also possible in Romagna. Tomorrow, further deterioration will occur, first in the Marche, Abruzzo, and Molise regions, then in Puglia, Basilicata, and the southern Apennines, in the provinces of Cosenza and Messina. Precipitation will take the form of thunderstorms with localized hail, but also snowfall that will reach the lower hills, or even mixed with rain, reaching the coasts. Temperatures will rapidly decrease in central and southern Italy, while stable weather will prevail in the rest of Italy. According to ilmeteo.it, on Sunday the 29th, the weather will remain unstable across much of the South, with further rain or locally heavy thunderstorms, hail, or snow showers near the plains. Strong north-easterly and north-easterly winds will blow, and temperatures will plummet, falling as much as 10 degrees below the seasonal average. The rest of Italy will instead expect fine, sunny weather, with localized fog in the Po Valley. Starting Monday, December 30th, and at least until Epiphany, a large anticyclone will favor a prolonged period of good weather across Italy.
