A man and a woman, united by providence, are given the task of foiling a terrorist attack in the English capital, destined to explode its terrible effects in the setting of the Champs Élysées. An adventure that runs quickly between Naples, London and Paris, up to the final showdown at the top of the great Arch of Fraternity. A gripping thriller by Massimiliano Amatucci, “In nome del padre”, 252 pages, 15 euros, published by Kairòs Edizioni, which will be presented on Friday 20 December 2019 at 18,30:417 pm at the Libertà bookshop in Corso Vittorio Emanuele III n. XNUMX in Torre Annunziata (Na).
Andrea Palmieri and Francesco Alessandrella will discuss it with the author.
The main character's inner mission is to safeguard himself and his values. While the mission entrusted to him, and around which the novel revolves, is to save a certain vision of the world. A raw story about the dynamics of Islamic terrorism conceived according to a secular reading in the clash between religions.
Dedicated to good, to achieve a higher goal, the protagonist carries out deplorable actions within the rich socio-economic context of today's Europe, which clashes with Christian values and attracts the ire of various forms of fundamentalism.
“After having published two detective novels, I wanted to change direction and it was natural to approach another of my favorite literary genres, that of the thriller,” explains Amatucci. “I have read many of them, I consider authors like Dan Brown, Robert Harris or John Grisham masters and, without having the ambition to reach their results, I still wanted to confront myself with a world that I feel close to”.
The engaging plot, the current topics, the biting realism that overflows between the pages, enrich a book that aims to convey a secular conception of good and evil, and stands out against every form of fundamentalism.
The first chapters, aimed at decoding the main character, represent the prologue of an original spy story, which continues with a war between religions where personal feelings and the fallibility of human nature prevail. The epilogue is also surprising; it overwhelms with its shock wave the characters who pass through it, torn between material and moral impulses.
Why read this book? “I think a good reason is to be able to combine an escapist reading – smooth and direct, in which the action is the main focus of the reader’s attention – with a novel that is also able to make you think,” concludes the author.
