More than two hundred fruit cages filled with books of various kinds – the "LIBERATED CAGES" – will be scattered throughout the city of Torre Annunziata, inside various businesses, starting with those affected by extortion bombings and robberies in recent weeks. This will help sow "seeds of culture" with a dual purpose, stimulating a desire to read without necessarily having to visit the bookstore.
“Beyond the real and heartfelt will and the possible ability of citizens and institutions to put in place an adequate and true reaction, there is something certain, tangible and concrete – Culture – that can certainly have a positive impact in the fight against the great social degradation that envelops a community that can no longer stand these daily bombs”, declares the President of the Oplontorum Association, the journalist Salvatore Sparavigna.
"A community, that of Torre Annunziata, now resigned - continues the journalist Sparavigna - that often remains immobile, gripped in a social fabric that has been degraded for decades and that in recent weeks is increasingly characterized negatively through the succession of explosions against commercial activities certainly of extortionist nature. A community, that of Oplonti, that on the one hand does not perceive the investigative activities of the many Law Enforcement Agencies already present in the territory with their Territorial Commands, on the other is not adequately involved in cultural and social growth through adequate and suitable actions in the territory".
The words of Beatrice Federico, wife of the Torre Annunziata merchant Raffaele Pastore killed in 1996 for refusing to pay the pizzo, are therefore auspicious: “I welcome with great favor and enthusiasm the initiative of the Oplontorum Association which, through an action of provocative stimulation to reading, aims above all to remember the many innocent victims of crime and the Camorra, drawing their attention and giving them back a “new life” precisely through the “cages lib(e)rate” which, full of books, are individually identified with the names and photos of the approximately 200 innocent victims. Indeed – continues Beatrice Federico – I take this opportunity to spend myself so that I can provide the Oplontorum Association with as many books as possible so that the goal of this noble objective is achieved, also thanks to my contribution, in the best possible way”.
Even the Mayor of Torre Annunziata, Vincenzo Ascione, is on the same wavelength and declares “The initiative of the Oplontorum Association – which is spending so much in the Oplontorum territory – is an initiative of high cultural and social value because on the one hand it stimulates reading, an exercise that is never practiced enough, but on the other, it contributes significantly to keeping attention high towards the many innocent victims of crime and the Camorra that have affected not only our territory but the entire Region.
This original initiative - continues Mayor Ascione - comes on the heels of the Honorary Citizenship that the Municipality of Torre Annunziata has conferred to the most illustrious and well-known victim of the Camorra, the journalist Giancarlo Siani, and therefore fits into that path already undertaken by my Administration that, although still uphill, the entire city must travel for a complete redemption and a definitive liberation from an evil that still grips our city".
The first “LIBERATED CAGE” dedicated to Raffaele Pastore, the businessman who was a victim of the Camorra, will be deposited this afternoon, December 18, 2019 at 16.00:XNUMX pm inside the Plinio pizzeria, which was hit by an intimidating attack a few days ago.
The “LIBeRATE” cages will certainly not stop the bombs nor solve the ancestral problems of the city of Torre Annunziata, but they represent a strong signal and a particular and significant response not only to the many bombs, but above all to a general silence that often, aided by small superficial reactions, fuels and favors the continuation of the general degradation from which the material perpetrators of these attacks feed.
