Five towns in the Picentini Mountains area, in the province of Salerno, have been without natural gas for hours due to a burst pipe caused by a landslide on the SP 26 highway. The damaged Italgas pipeline supplies the municipalities of San Cipriano Picentino, Castiglione del Genovesi, Giffoni Valle Piana, Giffoni sei Casali, and Acerno. "Restoration of service is expected tomorrow morning," explains San Cipriano Picentino Mayor Sonia Alfano, who is on site with firefighters and technicians from the Province, Civil Engineering, and the natural gas company. The landslide, which is still ongoing, has also caused serious damage to the road surface of the SP26 highway, the arterial road connecting the hamlet of Filetta with the municipality of San Cipriano Picentino, necessitating the closure of traffic.
