National cohesion, a culture of responsibility, and pride in our country, which must be viewed "deep down, a bit like how we are seen from abroad with our identity, synonymous with wisdom, genius, harmony, and humanity." This was the message from the Head of State in his end-of-year address to Italians.

“A challenging decade is coming to an end,” the head of state began, “marked by a long economic crisis and by changes as rapid as they are impetuous. In this time, many things have changed around us, in our lives and in society.”

"This is an opportunity to think - together - about tomorrow. To broaden the horizon of our reflections; without neglecting the present and its problems, but realizing that the future has already begun", he added.

“Italy – the President of the Republic has – inspires trust. That same trust with which we look, from the outside, towards our country must induce us to have more in ourselves, to give substance to the hope of a better future”. We must “have trust – is his appeal – and actively engage in the common interest. We have great resources. Of humanity, of ingenuity, of entrepreneurial capacity. All this produces important experiences, good practices of great importance”.

"It is important - said Mattarella - to develop a culture of responsibility that concerns everyone: from political formations, to individual citizens, to businesses, to intermediate formations. The culture of responsibility constitutes the strongest protection of freedom and defense of the principles on which the Republic is founded. This common feeling of society - when it is expressed - is reflected in the institutions to constantly instill an authentic republican spirit".
