Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori Colliri, once again addresses the state of abandonment of the San Martino area in the Vomero neighborhood, one of Naples' most beautiful and evocative spots, boasting breathtaking views and a significant tourist destination during this period. "This area contains unique artistic and environmental assets, such as the National Museum of San Martino, with its nativity scene section, including the Cuciniello nativity scene, the Certosa, and Castel Sant'Elmo," Capodanno states. "Nevertheless, the entire area appears completely abandoned, with an image of degradation further fueled by the presence of numerous piles of rubbish scattered along the access roads and the lack of sweeping of sidewalks and roadways." "Traffic conditions are no better," Capodanno added. "The already precarious situation was further aggravated this morning by the presence of numerous tourist buses, parked in the second row along the entire stretch from Via Tito Angelini to the square, making it impossible for both cars and the ANM shuttle bus, which has its terminus right in the square and whose parking area was itself occupied by a private bus."

” A paradoxical situation that, during the morning, paralyzed the entire area with traffic blocked up to via Morghen, where the municipality is located but also the local command of the traffic police – underlines Capodanno -. Precisely the lack of surveillance, in an area that is a tourist destination, meant that the most basic rules of the highway code regarding the transit and parking of tourist buses were violated. In this regard, it should be noted that the executive order no. 585 of 2 December 2019 regulated the matter but exclusively for the limited traffic zone of the historic center, with the prohibition of transit for tourist buses. Totally ignored in the aforementioned order are the neighborhoods of Vomero and Arenella – underlines Capodanno – where notoriously, during the Christmas period, considerable traffic jams are created. In the area of San Martino starting from via Tito Angelini, where there is also a ZTL, often ignored. To avoid the repetition of episodes like the one this morning - Capodanno adds - it is desirable that the executive order that regulates the matter during the Christmas period, be revised, taking into account, for the regulation of traffic during the Christmas period, also the hilly neighborhoods, also establishing the ban on parking of tourist buses also in San Martino. Furthermore, a greater presence of urban surveillance workers is needed in the entire area, also through the strengthening of the personnel currently in service ".
