“At 2 am this morning, the cornice of a building in via Bruno Buozzi, in Barra, partially collapsed. Fortunately, no one was involved in the accident and this is just a miracle. Rocks weighing tons fell from over 12 meters high and the rubble completely covered the roadway. Now the road is closed and traffic is interrupted. The fact that the collapse did not occur during the day is just a coincidence and we have to thank luck, otherwise we would have witnessed a tragedy, caused by neglect. Too many dilapidated buildings, too much disregard for common goods, too much sloppiness, too much incivility cause serious damage and, in the worst cases, even deaths. There are some neighborhoods in our cities that are falling to pieces and there are delays in both the public and private sectors. The safety of cities also starts here, these issues must be addressed and we cannot allow ourselves to postpone them any longer”. These are the words of Francesco Emilio Borrelli, Regional Councilor of the Greens.

“Making buildings safe cannot be decided arbitrarily, but must be an obligation for both the public and private sectors, only in this way can we prevent other accidents, other injuries, other deaths – adds Borrelli – Nowadays, too often the news tells us of accidents of this type that involve those who are not at fault, innocent people struck by bad luck and incivility, bordering on legality, of those who abandon themselves to carelessness”.
