When he saw the police, he threw a gun and bullets from the balcony, but the officers recovered the weapon and arrested him and an accomplice. On Monday afternoon—but the news has only now been released—a patrol of officers from the Dante Police Station observed a man on Via San Liborio throwing an object from the balcony of an apartment and then immediately reentering. On the condominium terrace, the officers recovered a .22-caliber revolver and 20 rounds of ammunition wrapped in a pair of trousers, while inside the apartment they found a toy pistol and 35 rounds of ammunition. During the search, the officers observed a person attempting to escape from the terrace across the rooftops. The man, Giuseppe Avolio, 52, was apprehended. He was the subject of a prison order issued on December 4th by the Macerata Prosecutor's Office, to serve a sentence of 3 years and 16 days for aggravated robbery. Avolio and the apartment's occupant, Ciro Polverino, 55, who had previously been charged, were arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm. Polverino will also be charged with procuring evasion of sentence for hosting Avolio in his home.
