Panettone (73%) and tortellini in broth (44%) will be a must-try on Christmas tables, along with pandoro (33%) and capon (16%). This is according to a survey conducted by the Milan Monza Brianza Lodi Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Confcommercio Milano, Bit, Homi, and Tuttofood, and conducted by Digicamere. The consumption data is based on a predominantly Lombard Italian sample (90% Milan and Lombardy, 10% rest of Italy). Among alternative foods, dishes such as vegetarian lasagna (33%) are the most popular. For holiday table decor, candles (52%) are the most popular, followed by edible decorations (24%) and Christmas wreaths (22%). For the home, the trends are single-color Christmas trees (43%) and illuminated nativity scenes (38%), as well as hanging ornaments (32%). The agricultural sectors linked to the holidays include Christmas trees, fruit, vegetables, pork, and flowers grown in protected crops. Leading the way in Italy in terms of total businesses in these sectors are Catania and Trapani with over 8 companies, Treviso with over 7.546 (+17,9%), Cuneo with 6 (+16,9%), Bari with 5.736 (+22,1%), and Verona with 5.725 (+14,9%). Salerno, Foggia, and Ragusa also exceed 5. Approximately one in ten businesses is foreign-owned in Ragusa (9,4%) and Prato (8,7%). In total, there are 193 companies in Italy with 276 employees (Chamber of Commerce of Milan, Monza, Brianza, and Lodi based on business register data for the third quarter of 2019, 2018, and 2014).
