The call to refrain from setting off dangerous firecrackers at the end of the year is starting with children. In San Giorgio a Cremano, some students, along with Mayor Giorgio Zinno and Security Councilor Ciro Sarno, have produced mini-commercials urging adults to abandon the practice, which risks causing injury or death at the end of the year. In addition to the video, there's also a poster featuring children in the foreground alongside animals with the caption, "If we love them, we won't scare them. Firecrackers? No thanks!" "We believe that education is always better than repression," explains Mayor Giorgio Zinno, "and that's why we're starting with children and standing alongside them to launch an appeal to our fellow citizens for responsible entertainment." The awareness campaign has already begun in the city. Posters have been distributed in the city's schools and will be posted throughout the area. Meetings will also begin tomorrow at schools, in consultation with the Municipal Police, to explain to students the risks of improper use of firecrackers.
