A new flow of earth and stone fell on the Amalfi state road, causing traffic to be interrupted in the locality of Vettica, in the municipality of Amalfi. The road is currently blocked and it will most likely take quite some time to restore the situation. The Carabinieri of the local company and the Anas staff are working to understand the methods of intervention. Yet another landslide – the third in just nine days – has made the traffic situation along the state road even more complicated: Amalfi can only be reached via the Chiunzi pass, while Positano can be reached via the Sorrento state road or via Agerola. Outages were also recorded in the Capo d'Orso area in the municipality of Maiori and in Cetara. At the moment, Anas reports, the road is closed from km 27,400 (Amalfi) to km 49,500 (Vietri sul Mare). This morning, meanwhile, the prefect of Salerno, Francesco Russo, carried out an inspection of the stretch where the landslide occurred last night, keeping over 200 wedding guests stranded in their hotel for hours. The firefighters, together with the Anas staff, are working to try to make the hillside safe again and clear the roadway of mud and debris. But the bad weather is causing damage and inconvenience not only on the Amalfi Coast. The Province of Salerno has reported the closure of the SS 18 in the municipalities of Vietri sul Mare, Rutino and Prignano Cilento where the Sp 56 is also closed; of the Sp 46 in Lustra, of the Sp 373 Ravello-Scala, of the Sp 28 Montecorvino Rovella-Montecorvino Pugliano, of the Sp 350 in Eboli, of the sp 105 in San Mango Piemonte, of the Sp 82 in Santa Marina and of the Sp 317 and 334 Serre-Eboli. In Sarno last night the evacuation of five families residing in the area between via Nunziante and the multifunctional complex “Saretto Eventi” was ordered due to the detachment of a cemented slab of breccia. In Salerno, trees fell during the night on Via Palestro and Via Vernieri, some of which damaged parked cars. “At first glance, it would seem that things are less catastrophic than one might have feared as far as the wind is concerned; there is a terrible sea. Our teams, all night long, on site to make it possible to open roads where possible", said this morning the mayor of Salerno, Enzo NAPOLI on the sidelines of the Coc meeting, also speaking about the conditions of the councilor Carmelo Luigi Della Greca, who was injured following a landslide that occurred yesterday in Giovi. “I accompanied him to the hospital, he is, let's say, quite well in the sense that he suffered a fracture of the twelfth vertebra which, however, has not had any consequences as regards the mobility of his limbs. Tomorrow, they will evaluate whether he should undergo surgery, or whether a good immobilization could resolve this issue. In Pontecagnano Faiano, however, the Cerasuolo aqueduct collapsed and since yesterday evening the water supply to Faiano has been interrupted. Technicians are working to restore the situation, while the Municipality has arranged for a tanker to be positioned in Piazza Garibaldi, starting at 13,30:2 PM and lasting approximately two hours, to deliver a small water supply.
