Record increase in BlaBlaCar bookings from Milan to Campania
for the pre-Christmas period: +38% compared to last year. To counteract the heavy increase in prices for North-South travel during the Christmas period, more and more citizens of Campania who have expatriated to the North are choosing BlaBlaCar, the world leader in long-distance carpooling, as the ideal solution to reunite with their families and celebrate Christmas. The platform maintains sustainable and fixed prices even at the last minute, allowing you to escape the "expensive Christmas" that, this year more than ever, afflicts those who are away from home.
BlaBlaCar: fixed and affordable prices even at Christmas
BlaBlaCar connects drivers with free seats on board with passengers travelling in the
same direction. The prices of the passages offered on the platform are calculated with a view to
travel expenses are divided and never change, not even at the last minute.
Precisely thanks to this peculiarity, BlaBlaCar has already recorded, for the Christmas return period (20-24 December), a trend of notable increase in bookings for North-South trips, reaching peaks of up to +38% compared to the previous year for routes from Milan to Campania.
In a recent research, Federconsumatori estimated that the increase in prices of trains, planes and
bus in high season this year has reached prohibitive levels, reaching over +188%. According to the latest update of the study, a further +39% has been added to this figure in flight prices. The research focuses mainly on Puglia, Sicily and Calabria, highlighting how prices for a Christmas trip to these regions have undergone unsustainable increases. It is therefore not surprising that BlaBlaCar is recording substantial increases in all the regions of the South (+33% in Puglia and +19% in Calabria).
But the Christmas returns of Campania citizens are recording record results. Just think that, booking a trip today on BlaBlaCar - for example - from Milan to Salerno for December 21st, requires from €34, compared to a minimum of €86 to travel the same route by train and €141 to get from Milan to Naples by plane, to which you also need to add the cost for the Naples-Salerno route. A bus trip from Milan to Salerno, on the other hand, requires a cost starting from €80. And that's not all, because it is not uncommon for Campania citizens to find that traditional means of transport are sold out as the departure date approaches. On BlaBlaCar, however, the offer becomes denser as the trip approaches, allowing more and more people to travel at affordable prices.
BlaBlaCar's appeal to Italian drivers

empty seats. Car sharing allows more people to go home for Christmas and generates
at the same time significant benefits for drivers: the sharing of travel expenses is just one of the
advantages obtained, to which are added the improved road system and a significant reduction in CO 2 emissions. According to the Le BIPE Zero Empty Seats report, in 2018 BlaBlaCar carpooling avoided the emission of 1.6M tons of CO 2 thanks to a higher average car filling rate (3,9 people per car with BlaBlaCar, against 1,9 without), and this result is destined to grow.
“During peak seasons, when traditional transport prices often reach prohibitive levels, requiring many travellers to travel with their own car, sharing empty seats is a fundamental ethical choice to reduce the environmental impact of cars and at the same time allow more people to reunite with their families for the holidays,” comments Andrea Saviane, Country Manager Italy of BlaBlaCar. “At BlaBlaCar, we work every day to build a fairer and more eco-sustainable world of transport, and in times like this we believe it is even more important to consider BlaBlaCar carpooling as an ecological travel alternative that is accessible to all.”
