The curtain falls on the first edition of the “Salotti d'Autunno” initiative in Castel San Lorenzo, the event held on Saturday afternoon in the multipurpose room of the village of Valle del Calore and which represented the epilogue of a series of meetings during which the village's salons, with the organization and coordination of the designer Mafalda Inglese, were able to discuss, discover and rediscover the traditions, customs and core values of their recent and past history.
“After the Municipality joined the project Salotti nei borghi del Sud and the related event Salotti d'Autunno – explains the designer Mafalda Inglese – people started to approach, initially with curiosity and hesitation, and then launched themselves into the discovery of the reality and the complex and fascinating history of which they are the holders and custodians.”
The event Salotti d'Autunno was divided into a first session dedicated to the culture of oil, a food and strong symbol of the Castellese community, with experts in the field such as the hygienist doctor Giuseppe Peduto, Dr. Rosa Pepe of CREA of Pontecagnano, Dr. Vittorio De Rosa of the Central Inspectorate for the Protection of Quality and Fraud Repression of Agri-food Products of Salerno, the president of the international tasters association OLEUM Domenico Cosimato and the entrepreneurs Cosimo Mucciolo of the La Macchia oil mill and Michele Lavecchia of the agricultural company Nuova Valcalore. With the second and final session, called the Green Heritage, the international ethnobotany researcher, Giovanni Salerno, talked about the traditional use of plants in the territory of Castel San Lorenzo and in Cilento, as well as their ancient dialect phytonoms.
The speakers were interspersed with the Ladies of the Salotto who read short interviews taken from a work of gathering information among the elderly of the village that was carried out about 15 years ago by the children of a third grade class, led by the teacher Dora Capo Senatore who preserved this work and delivered it to the Salotto.
The evening was enlivened by an interlude between the Sessions in which the expert Salottieri – Rosa D'Agostino, Giovanni Peduto, Antonella Volpe – offered essays, reflections and theatrical monologues pertaining to the themes discussed and the values of peasant civilization.
“We were very satisfied with the participation of the inhabitants of the town in the initiative” – underlines the municipal councilor Antonietta Iuliano – “and we believe that it is really the right way to build the future by gaining from the past the best part that those who came before us have given us, also through traditions and customs”.
To complement an event full of content, the exhibition of botanical compositions "Metamorfosi" by Dr. Giovanni Salerno with the participation of Francesco Capo, exhibitions of paintings by Pasquale Scardino and Giuseppina Peduto, the "Composizioni Oltre" by Gabriella Scardino with the use of painted stones, and a very young exhibitor of small paintings of only 8 years old, Fabrizio Giliberti, as evidence of the opening of the Salotto towards children and young people who will be able to learn the arts and techniques from the Masters of the Salotto. And the wood craftsmen who worked during the event and in the previous months to bring the exhibition to life could not be missed, Riccardo Mucciolo and Nicola Peduto and the heirs of Francesco Lembo, master wood craftsman.
“It was an evening full of events, of protagonists who expressed their knowledge, talent or studies that they have, as often happens, acquired in the cities where they studied or worked, but that they wanted to share with us today, and this is an important testimony of attachment and love for their roots” – concludes the mayor Giuseppe Scorza – All this spurs our work as municipal administrators in the direction of development and promotion of our territories. Congratulations to our Salottieri and see you at the next Salotto di Castel San Lorenzo”.
