“San Valentino Torio. The Signs of Art” is the exhibition promoted and financed by the Campania Region, through Scabec, in collaboration with the Municipality of San Valentino Torio on the initiative of the Mayor Eng. Michele Strianese and the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of S. Valentino Torio Pasqualina Garofalo, for the artistic direction of the architect Enrico Auletta.
From December 27 to January 6, the characteristic provincial town of Salerno, famous for its Infiorata and for San Valentino in Love, will be the setting for a Christmas festival focused on enhancing its historical-artistic landscape, rich in churches and palaces that house important works and architecture.
Like the Polyptych of San Giacomo by Andrea da Salerno, follower and collaborator of Raffaello di Sanzio and one of the greatest painters of southern Italy, preserved in the Monumental Church of San Giacomo Maggiore Apostolo, or the historic Palazzo Formosa, the new cultural center of the city. The activities will involve Palazzo Formosa and the two main churches of the center and of the historic village of Casatori, known in Roman times with the name of Thora, which preserves among its alleys and courtyards rural-style dwellings dating back to the last century.
The program of events will start on Friday 27 December from the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore Apostolo with the concert of the polyphonic choir of equal voices of Salerno Il Calicanto, directed by M° Silvana Noschese who will perform in “Natale al Top”, a live focused on the interpretation of famous Christmas carols from the classical, sacred and pop genres.
On Saturday 28 December, starting at 16 pm, the doors of Palazzo Formosa will open to the public for free visits until 6 January; for the occasion, the historic residence will be enriched by the installation of floral compositions by the masters of the Accademia Fioristi Federfiori and will be distinguished by the real-time creation of a painting of the typical Infiorata, to pay homage to the skill of the artisans, by the cultural association Le Vie dei Colori.
At 19 pm, there will be the conference “Andrea da Salerno, the polyptych and art in Naples in the first quarter of the 500th century” by Antonio Braca, art historian and former area manager for the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the provinces of Salerno and Avellino, and the participation of the parish priest Don Alessandro Cirillo.
On display is a 1:1 reproduction of the Polyptych of San Giacomo, expertly photographed by Alfio Giannotti, to allow a clear and close reading of the details, which are difficult to read today.
After New Year's Eve, the event will resume on Thursday, January 2nd at 19:30 pm at the Church of S. Maria delle Grazie (Casatori hamlet) with the concert of the "Ensemble Lirico Italiano". The instrumental group, directed by Maestro Francesco D'Arcangelo and enriched by the beautiful voices of Antonella De Chiara (soprano) and Daniele Zanfardino (tenor), will perform in a concert halfway between opera, traditional Christmas carols, polkas and the unforgettable music of soundtracks.
Last appointment Saturday 4th January at 19,30pm with the show of the historic voice of Matia Bazar Antonella Ruggiero, entitled “Cathedrals”, a minimal and original concert of voice and organ, with the organist Roberto Olzer, who will play the restored church organ for the occasion.
