The Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples, as part of the constant economic control activity of the territory, seized, in the Nocera-Sarnese countryside, over 8 tons of contraband cigarettes, for a total of 40.500 cartons from Eastern Europe, which would have brought in almost 2 million euros on the market. In particular, the financial police of the Giugliano in Campania Company, after noticing a van that for a long journey preceded a TIR with Polish license plates, started a chase that continued until the van and the tractor-trailer entered the warehouses of a logistics company in Mercato San Severino (SA).
Subsequent checks by the Giuglianesi Guardia di Finanza on the means of transport revealed that the “blondes” were hidden behind pallets full of “corn flakes” and had the fake “Marlboro Light” brand. In fact, the packages all bore the same alphanumeric code for tracking the product.
At the end of the operation, the financial police, in addition to having intercepted the cigarettes and seized the truck, the van and the food products used as cover load, arrested the 3 couriers, all of Ukrainian nationality.
The service activity demonstrates the constant commitment of the Corps in combating this ever-present illicit phenomenon, which has a significant impact on the health of consumers (counterfeit cigarettes are even more harmful) and on the Treasury, in terms of hundreds of millions of euros per year of evaded taxes.
Of great importance are the final data from the Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples, which in 2019 carried out 1.323 operations, seized over 70 tons of tobacco, reported 700 individuals and arrested another 109.
