“Dear Minister, we have learned from the press that the Board of Directors of ANAS, in its last meeting, refused to approve some measures proposed by the CEO, including in particular the one that would have given the green light to the tender for the doubling of the Strada Statale 372 Telese Caianello”. This is how the letter that the Presidents of Confindustria Benevento, Filippo Liverini, and that of Caserta, Luigi Traettino, wrote to the Minister of Infrastructure begins. “This is an infrastructure - we read further - that winds along the Lazio-Campania-Puglia axis, crosses the provinces of Benevento and Caserta and allows a direct connection between the A16 motorway (Naples-Bari) and the A1 route.

With this letter we express our dismay at the further postponement of a project for which a complex authorization process has been underway for over 12 years, up to the final decisive approval by the CIPE, in the session of 24 July 2019. To provide an idea of the strategic nature and necessity of this intervention, it is worth remembering not only that its implementation would lead to an increase in annual GDP of approximately 240 million euros, with direct and induced employment estimated at approximately 1.300 people, but above all that important factories of primary industrial companies are located along its route.

Furthermore, the average daily vehicles transiting on the “Telesina” are 16% higher than the regional average with a substantial presence of heavy vehicles, which also makes it one of the most dangerous roads in our region, with an accident mortality rate three times higher than the average. We appeal to you, Mr. Minister, who has repeatedly shown your sensitivity towards the right of our citizens to have safe connection infrastructures, which can guarantee the interconnections necessary to seize opportunities, so that decisions taken can be followed up and issues related to top roles can be avoided, which can further slow down the enforceability of decisions already taken, shared and financed that all of us: businesses and citizens of Southern Italy, have been waiting for years”.
