Thirty-five years after the "Rapido 904" train disaster, the town of Somma Vesuviana remembers the ultimate sacrifice of four of its citizens: Angela Calvanese and Nicole De Simone, and their children Anna and Giovanni, who lost their lives on December 23, 1984. The bomb planted on the "904" train caused 16 deaths and 267 injuries: the train had departed Naples Central Station at 12:55, bound for Milan. The municipal administration, led by Mayor Salvatore Di Sarno and with the organizational support of Prime Minister Giuseppe Sommese, has organized a commemorative event for Friday, December 20. At 8:30 a.m., a wreath will be laid at the monument dedicated to the family in the municipal cemetery. At 9 a.m., a concert by the "Fanfara del 10 Reggimento Carabinieri Campania" will take place at the Royal Church of San Domenico. Speeches by the family, authorities, and students will be included. In addition to the testimony of Giuliana Covella, author of the book "Rapido 904, the Forgotten Massacre" (Graus Editore), journalist Giovanna Salvati will introduce the event in the church. "On December 20th, we pay homage to four of our fellow citizens: Angela Calvanese, Nicola De Simone, and their children Anna and Giovanni, aged just 9 and 4," commented Mayor Salvatore Di Sarno. "They lost their lives in the Rapido 904 attack, which occurred just before Christmas 35 years ago. We want to remember their example to younger generations, which is why we will be at the cemetery and then at the church of San Domenico, where students will also be attending the Carabinieri Band concert. I ask all citizens to attend the event to show our sympathy to the family, 35 years after that terrible attack."
