The Municipality of Torre Annunziata has awarded honorary citizenship to Giancarlo Siani, a Neapolitan journalist from Il Mattino killed by the Camorra on September 23, 1985, who in his articles recounted the evolution of the clans in the Vesuvian town. Mayor Vincenzo Ascione formalized the resolution voted unanimously last month by the City Council and delivered, during a ceremony in the Municipality, the parchment to Giancarlo's brother, Paolo Siani.

“Today Torre Annunziata gives honorary citizenship to Giancarlo and Palazzo Fienga is returned to the State and the community. These are two pieces of good news. 34 years after his barbaric killing,” wrote Paolo Siani on social media, who remembered his brother at the ceremony by showing his journalist card. “I was asked to bring some things that would remember Giancarlo and together with my daughter Ludovica we immediately thought of the journalist card, because Giancarlo did not have time to become a professional,” he explained.

Also present, among others, were the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Matteo Mauri; the President of the Fnsi, Giuseppe Giulietti; the Secretary of the Campania Joint Journalists Union, Claudio Silvestri; the President of the Campania Journalists Union, Sandro Ruotolo, promoter of the initiative at the municipal administration together with the Sugc.
