Pasta e fagioli with mussels (a' pasta e fasule cu' e' cozzeche) is a typical Neapolitan dish with ancient origins rooted in two Neapolitan towns: Pozzuoli (where chili pepper is one of the ingredients) and Torre del Greco (where pepper is used to give the dish even more character). And it is in Torre del Greco, specifically at the "Imperium bar – bistro," that chef Vincenzo Langella offers this highly popular dish paired with a cocktail, the Whiskey Sour, the king of sour cocktails (drinks made with distilled spirits, fresh lemon juice, and sugar). An enveloping cocktail (even more so when made with egg whites), like the dish it accompanies, with a precise and clean flavor, featuring the smoky aromas of bourbon (which make this drink a perfect match for hearty dishes) that are refreshed by the aromatic punch of lemon that complements the seafood in the pasta e fagioli (in fact, the whiskey sour is also considered a valid alternative to the Martini when paired with oysters). But this is just one example of the numerous food pairing suggestions that the chef from Torre del Greco and the three bar tenders at Imperium (Ivan Cerbone, Rosario Marciano, and Sandro Azam) offer, all based on traditional recipes and cult cocktails enjoyed around the world.
The “Imperium bar – bistro” is a restaurant in the Vesuvian town that opened its doors a few days ago thanks to the efforts of three entrepreneurs (Lorenzo Villani, Riccardo Azam and Anna Villani) who wanted to create a location where “you can eat and drink well”, a definition that in the past was a slogan of Torre del Greco, a summer destination for many tourists (attracted by its beauty and the culinary offerings of its restaurants) and people from all over Campania who chose it as a destination for Sunday lunches out of town or for romantic dinners by the sea or with a view of Vesuvius.
"In addition to fulfilling our dream of opening a bar-bistro," the owners say, "with 'Imperium' we intend to refocus the attention of gourmets on Torre del Greco, which we want to be considered once again as the Empire of taste."
