Uto Ughi and Bruno Canino return to perform in Naples on Sunday 22 December for the second edition of the festival “Sacro Sud – Anime Salve 2.0”, directed by Enzo Avitabile. For decades, Uto Ughi and Bruno Canino have been one of the most acclaimed chamber music couples, performing in the most important concert halls and international festivals.
Heir to the tradition that saw the birth and flourishing of the first great violin schools in Italy, Uto Ughi (real name Bruto Diodato Emilio Ugh) is certainly one of the musicians most loved by the general public, also for his television appearances and lessons broadcast on the reference satellite channels. From early childhood he showed an extraordinary talent: at the age of seven he performed for the first time in public playing Bach and Paganini. He began his great tours performing in the most important European capitals and since then his career has known no rest. In 1997 the President of the Republic awarded him the honor of Cavaliere di Gran Croce for his artistic merits.
Bruno Canino studied piano and composition at the conservatories of Naples and Milan. Artistic director of the GOG from 1986 to 1995, he boasts collaborations with Uto Ughi, Itzhak Perlman, Lynn Harrell, Salvatore Accardo, Viktoria Mullova and Antonio Ballista, with whom he celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of the piano duo's activity, protagonists of important world premieres of twentieth-century compositions. From 1999 to 2002 he was director of the Music Section of the Venice Biennale, having dedicated himself particularly to contemporary music: he worked with Dallapiccola, Boulez, Berio, Ligeti, Maderna, Stockhausen, Bussotti. During his career he performed with prestigious orchestras such as the Filarmonica della Scala, Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Berliner Philharmoniker, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestre National de France.
The festival “Sacro Sud – AnimeSalve 2.0, organized by Black Tarantella and the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Naples and financed by the Campania Region (Fondi Poc 2014/2020), will bring until January 6th in 7 churches of the city of Naples, from the center to the suburbs, free admission shows with artists from Mali, Morocco, Madagascar, Pakistan, Iran, India, Portugal, Turkey, USA and Italy.
