The "Approdi 2020" theater series returns to the Nostos Teatro in Aversa. On Sunday, January 12th at 7:00 PM, the first show by and starring Carlo Gallo, "Bollari – Memories from the Ionian Sea," will be performed. Featuring the artistic collaboration of Peppino Mazzotta and costumes by Angeo Gallo, the show lasts approximately one hour and was selected for the 2015 Primavera dei Teatri Festival.
Between Campania and Sicily in the middle there is Calabria whose identity seems to have disappeared into the abyss, into a deep black hole. Yet on the shores of the Ionian Sea among the fishing boats and the piled up nets there are still those who pass on knowledge, they are "Aedi", with hollow faces, tired of wrinkles, they have the gift of telling through chains of suggestive images a "literary" heritage that lives only in a direct thread, which passes from mouth to mouth. The dramaturgy and the staging of the show reproduce original musical and gestural scores, faithful precisely to the emotional impulses of the tales of the Calabrian fishermen
“Bollari”, an ancient word translated into the guttural sound of fishermen to announce the sighting of tuna off the coast, a cry of joy followed by the launching and crashing of bombs into the sea, an illegal practice widespread among fishermen of the Ionian Sea in order to obtain as much fish as possible in a short time and to compensate for the complaints of the stomach
Taken from oral stories of elderly Calabrians, “Bollari” is a sea story that closes over the desert of values of a world overwhelmed by the regime and war.
The languid sound of the sea foam plays in the background, that sea of joys and sorrows, upon which the hunger and misery of the times pour. That sea upon which the characters renew their spirits and beat their oars—perhaps—to conquer their freedom.
Bollari is a sound of Calabria, it is a cry of love.
