A large high pressure system has taken hold of Italy, dominating the weather during these holidays, which are now almost over. However, over the weekend, the anticyclone will be temporarily affected by the arrival of icy polar winds. The team at www.iLMeteo.it warns that Saturday will be a day with very little precipitation, expected only between Liguria and Tuscany and in the evening on the Tyrrhenian coasts of Campania and Calabria. Fair weather will prevail across the rest of the region, with occasional fog in the Po Valley. From the early hours of Sunday, icy polar winds will arrive, primarily affecting the central Adriatic and the South. The weather will worsen in Abruzzo, Molise, southern Calabria, and northern Sicily, with some showers or local thunderstorms. Snow may fall at hilly altitudes in the Apennines, but it will be very occasional. Fair weather will prevail across the rest of Italy. Temperatures will drop, even significantly in the South and the central Adriatic. Monday, January 6th, the Feast of the Epiphany, will be a very cold day, characterized by moderate to strong northerly winds that will continue to blow across the lower Adriatic and the south. The weather will be mostly sunny. Temperatures will be very cold in the south, with temperatures 5-7°C below the seasonal average. At night, however, frost will be widespread in both the north and central-southern regions.
