Just before New Year's Eve, vandals defaced the entire perimeter of the Boscoreale Town Hall (Naples), overlooking Piazza Pace, a popular destination for young people, with obscene graffiti, some even taunting the police. Mayor Antonio Diplomatico announced the incident in a statement condemning the incident. "What happened is a very serious act of despicable incivility, made even worse by the defacement of a public property—the Town Hall, everyone's home—with very serious graffiti against the police. I immediately reported the incident, and investigations are underway to identify those responsible, some of whom are minors, genuine juvenile hooligans." Diplomatico concluded: "I appeal to my fellow citizens to cooperate with the investigation to enable the rapid identification of those responsible, given that, from what I have learned, the vandalism was committed in the presence of numerous citizens who frequent Piazza Pace. We will be relentless and will pursue them in every way possible, as well as oblige them to restore, at their own expense, the defaced walls."
