Sadio Mane', 27, won the 2019 African Golden Ball, ahead of Egyptian and Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah and Algerian Riyad Mahrez, who plays for Manchester City. He is the second Senegalese player to win the coveted trophy after El Hadji Diouf, who scored twice in the 2001 and 2002 editions. Salah, who had won the last two editions, and Mahrez did not attend the 28th award ceremony, which took place in Hurghada (Egypt). The latter is busy in the League Cup derby between 'his' Manchester City and Manchester United that evening. Mane' was placed fourth in the Ballon d'Or ranking of France Football, won by Leo Messi: during the past season he won the Champions League and the Club World Cup with the 'Reds', but also the top scorer in the Premier League with 22 goals. He also came close to winning the African Cup of Nations.
