“I am very satisfied. New Year's Eve was a great success and went very well both in the square and on the seafront with the fireworks and the disco and with the services that held up. The city has given great proof of maturity”. This is the comment of the mayor of Naples, Luigi de Magistris, the day after the celebrations for the arrival of the new year that was awaited by thousands of people in Piazza Plebiscito where they attended the concert. On stage, alongside young emerging Neapolitans, Stefano Bollani, new honorary citizen of Naples, and Daniele Silvestri who made young and old sing and dance. A varied audience at Plebiscito made up of Neapolitans but also tourists who invaded the city during this holiday period. Bollani offered the public his homage to Renato Carosone, whose birth centenary is celebrated in 2020. “It’s a special evening,” the internationally renowned pianist and composer said backstage, “because for the first time I’m playing in Naples as an honorary citizen, but above all because we’re paying homage to Carosone, who has been my role model since I was 11 and who led me towards good music. I wish everyone,” he added, “that it’s a year of transformation.” Among the songs offered to the audience were O’ Sarracino and Torero. Also on stage in Naples was the Roman singer-songwriter Daniele Silvestri, who performed some of his hits, including ‘Salirò’. Silvestri wished it “a peaceful year in which you have the feeling of having a project ahead of you, both individually and in general, in which you feel that the sacrifices you make and the difficulties you face are useful for something because there’s an idea, there’s a perspective that’s perhaps missing and that, if it were to start to arrive a little, it wouldn’t be bad for Naples and for all of Italy.” Also in Piazza Plebiscito was the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality, Eleonora De Majo.
