"The four Foggia municipalities dissolved for mafia infiltration (Monte Sant'Angelo, Cerignola, Manfredonia, and Mattinata) demonstrate the strength of these criminal groups' influence and connections. Through their operations, they manage to infiltrate public administrations, and therefore local governments, in order to strike deals. The strategy is always to seize contracts and obtain concessions," emphasized the national anti-mafia prosecutor, Federico Cafiero de Raho, in Foggia for a conference organized by the University. "In this area," he continued, "there is a growing awareness that the people of Foggia are not alone and that the State has become a point of honor to weaken and defeat this criminal organization." De Raho urges entrepreneurs, even those who haven't yet found the courage to report the extortion racket, to practice "ethics, the only basis for economic development. A truly strong economy must be one founded on rules," he adds, "and healthy entrepreneurs must believe in their legality. With the state at their side," he concludes, "the improvement objectives will be achieved."
