In recent days, the Head of the Department for Internal Affairs and Territory of the Ministry of the Interior, in agreement with the General Accounting Office of the State, announced the approval of the project drawn up by the Municipality of Castel San Giorgio for the safety of a long stretch of the banks of the Solofrana which in recent years has caused damage and devastation with frequent flooding.
The contribution to the Municipality of Castel San Giorgio will be approximately one million euros. “An important event for our territory – explained the mayor Paola Lanzara – Never before has our Municipality received such substantial help to secure a stretch of the banks of a stream that runs from Mercato San Severino to Nocera Inferiore through our entire reality. The approval of the project considered to be of priority importance is also an implicit recognition of the planning capacity of our offices that managed to intercept the funding and receive a sum finally adequate for a non-stopgap but structural intervention”.
The Solofrana, in Castel San Giorgio, in recent years, due to the lack of dredging and the wear of the old banks has caused floods and inundations causing not only damage to people but also to fields and crops along its entire route. "Now - continues Mayor Paola Lanzara - we will intervene radically by guaranteeing citizens along the Solofrana route that safety to which they not only have a right, but which represents one of the basic elements of a civil and prudent management of the territory. The administration intends to deal with the remaining unfunded section with its own funds in order to radically resolve the entire issue".
