The Greens of the Campania Region continue to document and monitor the waste emergency situation in Naples and Campania.
Even though some cleaning and waste recovery operations have been started, the situation remains serious, waste continues to accumulate throughout the territory, in various areas, from the historic center of Naples to the outskirts.
"Some areas, whose conditions were in an alarming state to say the least, have been cleaned and cleared of waste but the problem is not solved, there are areas between Barra, Secondigliano and Scampia still submerged by garbage, so we continue to update our dossier so that the problem is highlighted and resolved completely in the shortest possible time. The enormity and size of the open-air landfills, which have sprung up in this period, constitute a very serious attack on public health and potentially have an enormous environmental impact.
This morning we carried out an inspection of the Acerra waste-to-energy plant and checked the data from the control units placed on the chimneys. I would like to point out that we are against incinerators and incineration policies, but we must also honestly let it be known that we did not detect anything abnormal in the waste-to-energy plant: there was no such feared hazardous waste and the chimney control units reported data that was completely compliant with the law and not at all worrying. Furthermore, A2A has announced a new scheduled stop for maintenance: the third line of the waste-to-energy plant will stop from February 14 to March 5, for twenty days, so we will have to equip ourselves to avoid further crises” – declared the Regional Councilor of the Greens Francesco Emilio Borrelli regarding the environmental situation of the Neapolitan and Campania territory together with the university professor Vincenzo Peretti.
