The discovery of the bodies of two as yet unidentified divers, recovered in recent days a few kilometers apart on the Tyrrhenian coast, between Cefalù and Castel di Tusa, is a mystery. They may be somehow connected to the discovery of several hashish shipments on various Sicilian beaches. Five Sicilian prosecutors' offices are investigating the case: Agrigento, Trapani, Termini Imerese, Patti, and Messina, where the discoveries were made. The two divers, recovered between December 31st and January 8th, were wearing wetsuits and had some crude tattoos on their bodies. One was also wearing sneakers. No missing persons reports have been filed, and there are no reports of any shipwrecks. Investigators' hypothesis is that the two dead men, recovered 30 kilometers apart, were on the same vessel that was transporting a large hashish shipment that ended up in the sea. This is the suggestion made by Patti's prosecutor, Angelo Cavallo, who is coordinating the investigation into the discovery of one of the two bodies in the Messina area. "It cannot be ruled out," he stated in an interview with the local edition of the newspaper La Repubblica, "that the two men may have been victims of a shipwreck caused by the mistral wind that struck our coasts during the days they died. The other hypothesis is that the two fell into the water from a boat in distress, and that the drugs later found on three different beaches also ended up in the sea. Obviously, these are hypotheses that need to be verified." The drugs, of the same type and packaged in the same way, were discovered in recent days on the coast of Capo D'Orlando, in a seaside village of Castelvetrano, and on the beach of San Leone in Agrigento. In total, 98 kilos of hashish, packaged in blocks, were found, worth a million lire.
