Giovanni Custodero, the 27-year-old goalkeeper from Pezze di Greco, a hamlet of Fasano, who was suffering from bone sarcoma, died this morning. A few days ago he announced on Facebook that he wanted to resort to deep sedation to ease the pain. The footballer had played in the Fasano five-a-side football team, in the C5 championship. He had been diagnosed with the disease in 2 and had fought tenaciously against it with a smile, posting his emotions and treatments on social media, and promoting many charity initiatives. He had also had a leg amputated. A few days ago the post that had caused emotion: "I have decided to spend the holidays away from social media but next to the people who are most important to me. However, now that the holidays are over, and with them also the last grain of strength I had left, I have decided that I cannot continue to let physical pain and suffering prevail over what destiny has in store for me". Finally the announcement: "from tomorrow I will be sedated and I will be able to alleviate my discomfort."
