“The situation is difficult. The complaint made by the municipal councilor is questionable, but the situation remains serious. It is completely comparable to that experienced in 2008, because the condition of hardship is similar”. This was stated by Lorenzo Giannalavigna, president of the IX Municipality of the City of Naples, during the program “Barba e capelli” on Radio Crc, referring to the waste situation in the city. “I am very worried – continued Giannalavigna – the tension of the citizens is very high. The short circuit has its origin in the shutdown of the Acerra incinerator and in the closure of the Icm. This reveals the great mystery to us: there was a huge carpet where the waste had been placed, which has now been lifted and can no longer be covered. It is difficult to get out of this situation in a short time, if we can get out of it. Yesterday I spoke with the president of Asia, Maria De Marco, who proved to be very sensitive, assuring me that there will be special attention for Pianura-Soccavo, precisely because the situation here is very serious. The mayor, De Marco told me, has realized the situation”, concluded the president Giannalavigna. The regional councilor of the Greens, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, also spoke about the waste emergency: “The waste problem in Naples and in the province shows no signs of finding a solution but, on the contrary, it seems that the conditions, already critical, continue to worsen.
There are several, ever-increasing, reports regarding the presence of open-air landfills, increasingly larger and more dangerous, present throughout the metropolitan area.
The Greens of Campania are preparing a dossier to document the waste emergency throughout the metropolitan area of Naples and throughout the Region to make public the danger we are facing due to the environmental damage caused by open-air landfills and toxic fires.
"We are preparing a new dossier to clarify the urgency of the interventions aimed at cleaning up and reclaiming the areas buried by waste. There are areas such as the neighborhoods of Pianura and Soccavo where the situation is truly tragic, but they are certainly not the only areas affected by the emergency. There is no area of the city, the suburbs, and the Region that is exempt from the problem. Even Piazza Scacchi, where restoration work with UNESCO funds has recently been completed, has become a landfill. We are approaching a point of no return, where from then on it will be practically impossible to get the situation back in hand. We need to act immediately to free and reclaim the areas infested with waste but this would only be a temporary solution because without a radical change in our lifestyle and our mentality the problem can only reappear and become stronger", declared the Regional Councilor of the Sole che ride Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
