Hundreds of children, noses in the air, waited for the Befana (the witch) to drop sweets and candy from a firefighter's crane in Naples' Piazza del Plebiscito. Many families gathered in the square today to participate in the traditional Epiphany celebration, organized by the City Council in collaboration with the Provincial Fire Department. "This celebration is the perfect ending to an excellent holiday season for the city, with so many people in attendance," said Mayor Luigi de Magistris, "and I extend my thanks and gratitude to the firefighters who are always on the front lines for our city and the entire country with such professionalism, humanity, and sacrifice." "Pompieropoli," a creative play trail featuring specialized firefighter vehicles, and an educational road safety trail run by the volunteer association "Asso e..." were set up in Piazza Plebiscito. Adding to the festive atmosphere is the rhythm of the tammorra with Romeo Barbaro's Paranza and the Guarracini Salvatore Totaro and Erna Muto. "It's a moment of joy for Neapolitan children and beyond," concluded the city's Education Councilor, Annamaria Palmieri. "A carefree morning for tourists and children, a celebration of tradition but also of the generosity that characterizes our community, demonstrated by the presence of artists and associations who volunteer and donate."
