Former Serbian striker Darko Kovacevic was shot and wounded this evening in an attack outside his home in the Athens suburb of Glyfada, the Athens News Agency reported. Initial reports indicate that the 46-year-old former Serbian national team player suffered a knee injury and was taken to a local hospital. Kovacevic's injury may have been caused simply by falling to the ground after being shot. The unknown assailants reportedly fired from a car at Kovacevic as he was leaving his home. Kovacevic made 59 appearances for the Serbian national team from 1994 to 2004. He played nine seasons for Real Sociedad and also played for Red Star Belgrade, Juventus, Lazio, and Sheffield Wednesday before finishing his career with Olympiakos from 2007 to 2009. He is now an Olympiakos official.
