Late in the morning on New Year's Day, at Rome's Termini station, a 48-year-old man was stopped as he disembarked from a high-speed train from Salerno, thanks in part to a tip-off from Rete Ferroviaria Italiana's Corporate Security staff, who had noticed him hastily deboarding the train with two large bags. Checks revealed that the passenger had a criminal record for property crimes and that the bags contained tablets, smartphones, and other items, including high-quality wines, worth a total of over €4. The man was unable to explain their provenance. Further investigations revealed that a tablet and a smartphone had been stolen from a foreign tourist traveling to Milan, who was on the same train as the thief. Following the investigation, the man was arrested and handed over to the Rome judicial authorities.
