An investigation by the Carabinieri and firefighters will clarify the cause of the fire at the nursing home on Corso Umberto in Carinola, during which two residents lost their lives: Emma Romagnolo, 57, originally from Francolise, and Anna Piano from Sant'Agata de' Goti (province of Benevento). Unfortunately, when the three firefighters arrived on scene, they were already dead, inhaled by the smoke that within minutes had engulfed the entire facility. The fire broke out in the laundry room and quickly spread to the adjacent kitchen and other rooms. Firefighters, using a ladder truck, were able to rescue four other residents of the facility by evacuating them through the window. This was a difficult operation due to the residents' age and mobility issues. Now it's up to the Carabinieri and firefighters to determine what caused the fire and whether there were other problems with the systems.
