They will appear before a judge for the preliminary hearings of the Avellino court on March 11th to answer to various charges of embezzlement, abuse of office, and false ideology committed by a public official. They are the former administrators, and others, of the Carlo Gesualdo municipal theater in Avellino. Ten people are under investigation, including the current director of the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory in Naples, Carmine Santaniello; the former president of the theater's foundation, Luca Cipriano, who was a mayoral candidate for a center-left coalition in the last Avellino local elections; the director, Dario Bavaro; and the auditors and other members of the theater's board of directors. At the center of the investigation conducted by Deputy Prosecutor Maria Teresa Venezia is the municipal theater's deficits in its financial statements from 2013 to 2016. According to the prosecutor, the suspects allegedly misappropriated "sums collected in payment for theatrical performances," embezzling approximately €110 in total, derived from the difference between the total box office receipts and the total amounts paid into the theater's treasury.
