A month after its publication, "The Walking Diet" is enjoying great success and is among Amazon's best-selling books. Published by Tecniche Nuove, the book is written by journalist Laura Avalle, an expert editor of national health and wellness magazines, in collaboration with nutritionist Sara Cordara. It presents itself as a handy guide for those concerned with their shape and wanting to shed a few extra pounds without making excessive sacrifices. "Working extensively in the health and wellness field," explains Laura Avalle, "I had been thinking about writing this text for some time, because we often talk about diets in newspapers but don't have enough space to be comprehensive. The need to delve deeper into the topic of fitness walking and its related benefits, and combine it with a specific diet, immediately attracted the enthusiastic approval of nutritionist Sara Cordara, who, as co-author, oversaw the entire nutritional section. The publishing house "Tecniche Nuove," a leader in the textbook sector, immediately embraced the project. For my part, as a journalist, I offered my expertise on what people want these days, in these hectic times." Rushing to keep up with countless commitments, balancing work and home, laziness, and a lack of time or desire are among the most common reasons that push people to neglect their physical fitness. But staying fit can take less than you think: "I myself," the journalist continues, "as a professional and mother of a small child, don't have time to do much, even though everyone tells me I'm fit. But there's one thing I never miss, and that's brisk walking, even in the city." Walking briskly, at a pace of 100 steps per minute (about 6 km/h) for at least half an hour a day, brings countless psychophysical benefits, which are illustrated in the book thanks to careful research from several medical studies. It's not just about losing a few pounds, but also about stimulating the metabolism and lymphatic circulation (with beneficial effects on fighting cellulite), reducing heart rate and blood pressure, strengthening the osteoarticular system, and increasing the production of vitamin D and endorphins (helpful for lifting mood and combating anxiety and depression). The text also includes a "diet" divided into daily and weekly plans with advice from nutritionist Sara Cordara for gaining up to two dress sizes. But rather than a diet, it would be more correct to talk about a lifestyle that's beneficial for everyone:
“Today,” adds Avalle, “there is no time or desire to prepare different foods for the various members of the family or to weigh foods with scales. We are not talking about a drastic diet, nor do we force you to weigh foods, which are taken directly from the tradition of the Mediterranean diet and therefore easy to find. We suggest how to combine foods, and also how to choose a dessert to indulge in. And then we also leave room for two evenings of freedom to indulge in a little indulgence, such as eating pizza with friends.” To stay in shape, however, nutrition must be combined with a bit of physical activity: “It is natural that, to get results, a bit of effort is needed, which can be combined with fun, meeting new people and places, better if in the middle of nature and including climbs along the way, which make you lose 40% more calories. Walking is underestimated and taken for granted. We realize its extreme importance either when we see the hard conquests of a child who learns to move the first or when unfortunately we are immobilized due to an accident and cannot move. If we are in good health, we have the duty to take full advantage of all the advantages that can come to us from the simplest physical activity there is”.
The book “La dieta della camminata” represents the latest literary work by journalist Laura Avalle and the first in the field of scientific manuals. In her multifaceted writing, not only journalistic activity but also novels, poems, diaries, important collaborations such as the one with the noir genius Andrea Pinketts and as a literary commentator for the RaiUno program “Milleeunlibro” by Gigi Marzullo. And there is already a new work in the pipeline, much anticipated, that will see the light next summer and that is destined to be talked about a lot: it is a novel that will tell the love story between a mature woman and a younger boy that will be published by Armando Curcio editore.
