The financial police of the Guardia di Finanza of La Spezia and Genoa, together with the Customs Agency, discovered an international cocaine trafficking, in the port of La Spezia, seizing 300 (three hundred) blocks of cocaine-type narcotic substance, for a total of over 333 kg, found inside a container coming from Brazil.
The activities, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of La Spezia, were carried out by the Economic and Financial Police Unit of Genoa and the La Spezia Group. The service operation was born from the decision of the Guardia di Finanza of La Spezia - after having carried out a thorough risk analysis of goods shipped from sensitive countries - to subject to an in-depth check a container carrying wooden crates containing granite slabs, coming from Brazil.
Having detected some anomalies in the cargo, the financial police and customs officers found in some cleverly hidden pallets 300 (three hundred) blocks, for a total of over 333 kg of a narcotic substance of the cocaine type with a value of approximately 100 million Euro.
In order to identify those responsible for the illicit trafficking, the cargo was closed and monitored by the financial police until it was extracted, which turned out to be a warehouse in Massa Carrara, where four of the responsible parties were arrested (JMJ, of Croatian nationality, B.A, Albanian, PBL, Brazilian and CG, Italian) while they were trying to recover the drugs.
The service activity concretely demonstrates the effective action implemented by the Guardia di Finanza in the fight against international drug trafficking – with particular attention to ports and airports.
