            "Even in these first days of the new year, the public transport disruptions in Vomero continue," says Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori collinari. "So this morning, the three escalator ramps of the intermodal system connecting the upper stations of the three funiculars and the metro line 1 station in Piazza Vanvitelli were closed to the public."

            "There was no notice displayed to the public that could justify this closure, which however does not seem to depend on new faults but rather on the lack of staff - Capodanno points out -. However, this latest disservice has generated a lot of disappointment and anger among the many people who use the escalators every day, tourists but also elderly people and those with walking difficulties, forced to reach the San Martino area either by climbing the Piperno stairs or through the hairpin bends of Via Morghen ".

            "Unfortunately, these situations of downtime occur extremely frequently," Capodanno emphasizes. "After the grand opening on October 16, 2002, following work lasting about two years, at a cost of about four billion of the old lire, for the intermodal system consisting of three escalators, two between via Morghen and via Scarlatti and one in via Cimarosa, there have been many circumstances in which at least one of the three ramps has been put out of service, even for fairly long periods of time. To the point that they have been ironically nicknamed the "im...movable stairs."
