On the occasion of the celebrations for the centenary of Renato Carosone's birth, which took place in Naples on January 3, 1920, Gennaro Capodanno, president of the Comitato Valori Colliri and former president of the Vomero district, is re-asking the question he posed months ago, without receiving an answer to date: "What happened to the plaque dedicated to Renato Carosone?"
"A real mystery, a mystery that even the inhabitants of the populous hillside neighborhood pondered at length at the time," recalls Capodanno, "the disappearance of the plaque naming the square, located between Via Paisiello and Via Annella di Massimo, after the great and unforgettable artist Renato Carosone."
"In March 2018 - Capodanno points out -, as can be seen in the video published on the page https://youtu.be/tUcWWvVI2o0 , with great emphasis, in the presence of the mayor of Naples and other representatives of the municipal administration, three places were named after as many great musicians in Vomero, with three separate plaques, to be precise two roundabouts, dedicated to Sergio Bruni and Roberto Murolo and the square in question dedicated to Renato Carosone. At the time, there was a real competition aimed at attributing the merit of the naming in question."
” But, as unfortunately often happens in Naples, once the curtain fell on the inauguration, problems began related to the well-known lack of maintenance of the few public green spaces present in the city and, in particular, in neighborhoods such as Vomero – underlines Capodanno -. From here the numerous protests to report the serious situation that had arisen, also because in addition to the lack of maintenance of the grass, the flowerbed in question, also without a border, had become a receptacle for waste of all kinds, arousing, among other things, the righteous indignation of the many admirers of the great artist, to whom the square had been dedicated “.
"Then, more recently, we witnessed the mystery of the disappearance of the license plate - underlines Capodanno -. There are also those who hypothesize that this disappearance should be related precisely to the degradation that has continued to characterize the flowerbed in question."
New Year's Eve, once again, on the occasion of the anniversary, in this regard the competent offices to promote the appropriate and necessary investigations to solve the mystery of the missing license plate. It is hoped that the plate will be repositioned in the flowerbed in question, after the latter has been the subject of a suitable maintenance program that guarantees its cleanliness and decorum, also equipping it with a video surveillance camera to identify and sanction those who until now have used it to dump waste of all kinds or to deposit abandoned furnishings and objects.
