Hundreds of people crowded the tables set up in Pavilion 1 of the Mostra d'Oltremare today for the solidarity lunch organized by the City of Naples to give a day of celebration to the homeless, those experiencing economic and social hardship, and marginalization. Among them were the elderly from the Signoriello municipal nursing home in Secondigliano. Approximately 500 guests were identified thanks to the Poverty Roundtable established at the Department of Social Policies, which includes associations, cooperatives, and other third-sector organizations. "This is yet another demonstration of Naples' great heart," said Councilor Monica Buonanno. "It's an initiative the City organizes every year, but I must say that this year there was a strong showing of participation, involving large businesses, small businesses, and the entire community of non-profit organizations." Serving the tables were over 150 volunteers and representatives of Whirlpool workers from the Via Argine plant. Guests were treated to a menu of baked pasta, chicken legs with a side of potatoes and vegetables, fruit, and desserts, including traditional Christmas sweets such as panettone, pandoro, struffoli, and cassatine. The luncheon was graced by actress Rosaria De Cicco and musical accompaniment by the Fratelli di Meglio band.
