The graphic novel Percy's song by Martina Rossi, Phoenix Publishing editions, will be presented in Naples on Saturday 18 January 2020 at 17:30 pm at the Fumetteria Alastor in via Mezzocannone 7.
The author will be in conversation with Ruben Curto (comic artist, muralist, cartoonist, illustrator, teacher and co-founder of Collettivo Nube), with a recorded intervention by the actor and voice actor Jacopo Calatroni (Italian voice of Spider-Man in the video game Marvel's Spider-Man and of Akira Fudo/Devilman in the Crybaby series). Moderated by Francesco Saverio Tisi, deputy director of Phoenix.
The publishers will be present. In addition, when purchasing the album, a drawing will be held that will allow one lucky person to take home an original illustration by the author, created for the occasion.
Euro 11,50 for 56 pages of art. A colorful comic, with soft colors and soft lines, that is a pleasure to browse and read.
It tells the romantic and melancholic story of Percy, who wakes up after a long sleep, without remembering anything of his past. The only thing he knows is that he is dead. Hence his painful epic: discovering the way in which he died, thus abandoning "the middle earth" in which he is a prisoner, ascending to the kingdom of the dead and finally letting himself go to the longed-for eternal peace.
The drawing is delicate, the colors soft. The story, touching and at the same time ruthless. A contrast that does not go unnoticed.
“It’s a type of narration typical of fairy tales,” explains the author, “talking about something dark, but making it more comfortable. I think that sometimes, to tell something strong or that will probably generate disappointment in the reader, it’s important to use a form that puts them at ease, in a condition to listen. If I had created a dark and distressing context right from the start, the reader would have been on the defensive from the first page, not paying the right attention to the message.”
It's the first time the artist has written a story in which she has to take care of everything herself: from the script to the lettering. "I tried to outline the work," she adds, "starting from a very general idea and gradually defining the details. Reading and rereading, comparing Percy with other comics, studying the way established cartoonists create."
Martina Rossi was born in 1989 in Recanati, where she approached the world of comics and illustration from an early age. She graduated from the Art Institute “G. Cantalamessa” in Macerata and finally moved to Rome to deepen her comics skills. After completing her studies at the Scuola Romana dei Fumetti, she began working as a portraitist and cover artist for independent authors. From here began the first collaborations with the writers Pierluigi Curcio and Orietta Cicchinelli. In the same period she worked as an illustrator for the newspaper “Metro Roma”. In 2016 she arrived at the publishing house “Lo Scarabeo”, illustrating a deck of tarot cards dedicated to the Little Prince. She currently works as a colorist for the publishing house BellaFe and as an author for Americana Studio.
