The Italian Association of Meetings and Studies on Local Development presents the next two "Piazze del Sapere" meetings dedicated to China: Saturday, January 11th at 4:30 pm at the Pacifico Bookshop and Monday, January 13th at 5:30 pm at the Provincial Wine Shop in Caserta.
On one side, China, the star of the global economy and innovation, but also of the reduction of poverty and the increase in life expectancy. On the other, Italy, among the last countries in terms of growth in a Europe that seems to have lost confidence in itself. How did we get to this point? To understand it and find a way out, we need to study the miracle of the Middle Kingdom and ask ourselves how a society without political elections developed extraordinarily effective collective learning tools that allow it to better adapt to a technological revolution that is changing everything. China's lessons are those of global brands like Alibaba, but also of very small companies like Iflytek, which are pioneers in adapting technology to people's daily lives: of the elderly in seniors' universities, or of farmers using drones to grow and sell strawberries. All are protagonists of a great leap that cannot be fully understood without analyzing the strange modernity of an ideology and a Party considered obsolete, but also the ancient philosophical legacy of Confucius. In a surprising journey through the ghosts of liberal democracies and the avant-garde of the East, Francesco Grillo takes us to meet visionary entrepreneurs, political leaders and intellectuals, the contradictions and limitations of a model, fantastic cities and education systems, to discover the ideas the West needs to shake off a torpor that has accompanied it since the illusion, in 1989, of having "won everything."
