On Friday the 17th at 9:00 PM, with repeats until Sunday, January 19th, the Teatro Sannazaro presents "Poochos," its new production. The show, written and directed by Benedetto Sicca, tackles a sensitive topic: the connection between football and homosexuality. On stage, Francesco Aricò, Emanuele D'Errico, Dario Rea, Francesco Roccasecca, Eduardo Scarpetta, fresh from their debut at the Filodrammatici theater in Milan last November 28th as part of the Lecite Visioni festival. Inspired by a news story from 2012, the year in which an amateur gay soccer team from Naples open to any sexual orientation, homosexual, bisexual, heterosexual, and gender, male, female and trans, reluctantly came out, questioning the heterosexual sexist stereotype that sees soccer as the macho and masculine sport par excellence. The jarring combination, according to the current cliché, between soccer and homosexuality becomes a moment of reflection on a taboo to overcome.
“A show about our sexual habits, our desires and our love for football – explains Benedetto Sicca – in which the audience is invited to make a cheerful reflection on their own sexuality and on how desires can be a source of liberation.”

Seven years ago, a young homosexual Neapolitan posted an invitation to play a game of five-a-side football on a gay dating chat. The first people signed up and within a few weeks, the “little game” became a habit, so much so that the boys decided to form a real team that was called “Pochos”, urchins in Spanish, in honor of the nickname of the footballer Lavezzi. During a presentation evening where the press unexpectedly showed up, the young footballers were forced to publicly address the issue of their homosexuality… thus began the “great night of the Pochos” in which each of them was forced to deal with their own fears. For many, that night began a journey of liberation.
Starting from this story, Benedetto Sicca has developed, within the Cantiere Sartoria of the Teatro Sannazaro, directed by Francesco Saponaro, a space for experimenting with scenic writing, a creative residence that becomes a new production of the theatre.
