January 19, 2020, will mark the 40th anniversary of the passing of Livorno-born singer-songwriter Piero Ciampi. This momentous occasion will be celebrated with a special edition of the award dedicated to him, titled "Piero Ciampi Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow."
The 2020 edition of this important event, which will start on January 16 and will end on January 19, was presented this morning in the Mascagni room of the Goldoni Theater. The press conference was attended by Massimiliano Mangoni (President of the Ciampi Award Association), Luca Salvetti (Mayor of Livorno), Antonio Vivaldi (President of the Ciampi Award Jury), Marco Leone (Director of the Goldoni Foundation) and Riccardo Vitti (President of the Livorno Foundation).
After a long oblivion, Ciampi has become one of the key figures not only of music, but also of contemporary Italian culture. Therefore, the Ciampi Award wants to remember him for what he meant and will continue to mean, on the occasion of this fortieth anniversary of his death. On Sunday, January 19, at 10.30:11.30 a.m. at the Cimitero della Misericordia in Livorno, homage will be paid to the tomb of Piero Ciampi. Then at XNUMX:XNUMX a.m. we will move to Via Roma at the birthplace of Piero and Amedeo Modigliani, located opposite each other for another initiative.
The final concert on Sunday evening at the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno at 20.45:XNUMX p.m. will be a way to pay homage to Piero Ciampi and, at the same time, retrace the events of our Award. We will do so with La Crus, winners of the first edition, thanks also to a memorial cover of “Il Vino”, and with Omar Pedrini, also a pioneer in the revisitation of the Ciampian relic.
The concert on January 19 will also be an opportunity to recall a truly special moment for the Ciampi Award: Fabrizio De Andrè's concert in 1997, in which, among other things, Fabrizio spoke about Piero in an extraordinarily effective way. That evening, on stage with his father, there was also Cristiano De Andrè. Cristiano, who is experiencing a truly happy moment in his career, will go on stage at the Teatro Goldoni for an acoustic performance. For the occasion, he will receive the Special Jury Award.
The Orchestra Multietnica di Arezzo will take care of projecting Piero Ciampi's repertoire into the artistic (but also social) future of our country. Together with the ensemble directed by Enrico Fink, there will be Andrea Scanzi, one of the most acute signatures of Italian journalism, and Paolo Benvegnù, an author of great sensitivity who, again in 1997, won the Ciampi Prize together with Scisma.
Piero’s versatility as an author will be highlighted by the jazz arrangements of his pieces by the Trio di Livorno, led by pianist Andrea Pellegrini. With them Tommaso Novi (formerly of Gatti Mèzzi) and Francesco “Maestro” Pellegrini of Zen Circus.
On the stage of the Teatro Goldoni we will have Letti Sfatti, other winners of the Ciampi Prize, passionate rock revisiters of Piero's repertoire, and the Livorno writer Aldo Galeazzi, who has always been a Ciampi native.
Cristiano De Andrè's participation in this edition of the Award has prompted us to open a window on a city that gave birth to many masters of Italian songwriting. This is Genoa, which will inaugurate our event on January 16 at Viadelcampo29rosso-La casa dei cantautori genovesi with the event "Piero Ciampi and Genoa, an inevitable affinity". Gianfranco Reverberi, artistic collaborator and great friend of Ciampi, and Flavia Ferretti, one of our winners, will participate.
The Ciampi Prize has always paid great attention to the world of publishing, a fundamental vehicle for the dissemination of ideas, knowledge, and information. In Livorno, at 17.30:19 p.m. on January XNUMX, in the Mascagni room of the Goldoni Theater, five recently published volumes will be presented. The theme that unites them is the irreducibility to conventions. “Pinelli – una storia” by Paolo Pasi is a necessary choice, given that the fiftieth anniversary of the Piazza Fontana massacre and the death of Giuseppe Pinelli has just passed. Fabrizio De Andrè, close to anarchist ideals, is the protagonist of “Non ci sono poteri buoni” by Paolo Finzi, while Alessio Lega tells the story of a great political singer-songwriter (and Ciampi Prize for lifetime achievement) in “La nave dei folli – Vita e canti di Ivan Della Mea”. Of course, there can't be missed a dedication to Ciampi - the diehard among the diehards - contained in the book "Il Lanciatore di donne e altri racconti" by Jennà Romano of Letti Sfatti. Finally, Fausto Pellegrini will talk to us about his "Incanto - Viaggio nella canzone d'autrice".
Piero Ciampi loved different forms of art in his life. For this reason, as in previous editions, the Award will feature visual arts, poetry, comics, and theatrical performances alongside music.
On Saturday, January 18th at Villa Mimbelli (Hall of Mirrors), starting at 16:XNUMX p.m., the Ciampi L'altrarte Award will be the protagonist. The winners of this twentieth edition are Anna Scalfi Eghenter and Aldo Piromalli, the latter told by the voice of Giulia Girardello. The event will close with a musical performance by Marco Lenzi.
On Sunday, January 19, at 16.30:2020 p.m., the Sala Mascagni of the Goldoni Theater will host the award ceremony for the winners of the Valigie Rosse Prize dedicated to poetry. As per tradition, there will be an Italian and a foreign winner. For XNUMX, the award will go to Giulia Rusconi and the Turkish Haydar Ergulen, respectively.
In addition to the so-called official events, the Ciampi Prize will also propose other events. On January 17 (at 18.30:70 pm) in the 2mXNUMX Architecture Studio, “….and it took only one useless caress to turn the world upside down” will be performed – an anarchic and poetic tale by Piero Ciampi. The work conceived by Arianna Scommegna and Massimo Luconi will see Arianna Scommegna on stage accompanied on the accordion by Giulia Bertasi. During the evening, the artistic project “Tinta Unita” will be presented.
Also on January 17, at 21.30:XNUMX pm, Mercemarcia will host the photography exhibition by Daniele Stefanini “Sporca estate – Shots from the port of illusions”. On the same occasion, the musicians Nico Sambo and Antonio Bardi will present “Nel porto delle illusioni – Omaggio a Piero Ciampi”.
Genoa will not be the only trip of the Ciampi Prize. On January 18th at Studio Gennai in Pisa (21.00:XNUMX p.m.) the second edition of Piero Ciampi a fumetto will take place, with highly talented authors such as Dr Pira, Francesco Guarnaccia, Giovanni Timpano, La Tram, Micol&Mirco, Silvia Rocchi and Taddei&Angelini, who will reimagine a Piero Ciampi in comics.
The Ciampi City of Livorno Award is organized by the Ciampi Award Association, with the contribution of: Municipality of Livorno, Tuscany Region, Livorno Foundation, Goldoni Theater Foundation and Arci Livorno and in collaboration with: Edizione Valigie Rosse, Viadelcampo29rosso, Brikke Brakke Social Cooperative, Carico Massimo, Mercemarcia, 70m2 Architecture Studio and Studio Gennai.
