Mario Grieco Death Trial: Postponed to Tuesday 3 March 2020

NAPLES. Everything adjourned until 10:30 am on Tuesday 3 March 2020. This is the outcome of the hearing of the trial for the death of Mario Grieco held on the morning of Wednesday 8 January, at the Palace of Justice in Naples, located in the business center.

The accused is absent Ferdinand Spaziani. Present in the courtroom were: the victim's mother, Rose of Bernard, and the father, Giuseppe Grieco; the family lawyer Greek, as well as legal of the Italian Association of Relatives and Victims of the Road Onlus, Davide Tirozzi; President AIFVS Onlus, Alberto Pallotti; the person in charge of the branch of Aversa and the Aversa countryside AIFVS Onlus, Biagio Ciaramella; the president of the Association “Courageous Moms", Elena Ronzullo.

The judge deemed it appropriate to postpone the hearing until next March. To intervene, after the Attorney General's Office, it was the lawyer Davide Tirozzi, who emphasized the total reliability of the witness, Lucy Sylvester, which, more than ten years after the incident, last October, confirmed, in court, what was reported in a phase following the incident to the mother in a meeting that took place at the cemetery of Pozzuoli, right on the grave of the missing boy. Therefore, the Veronese has requested confirmation of the first-instance sentence.

“We are satisfied with the position of the Prosecutor's Office – says the lawyer Davide Tirozzi -. We discussed in court and we are waiting for the other party, trusting in the good outcome of the trial". "It is not acceptable that 11 years have passed since the accident and the family Greek still have to wait to get justice – says the president AIFVS Onlus, Alberto Pallotti -. We are upset by the defendant's umpteenth dissertation. We believe it is an insolent attitude that can only happen in Italy. We ask ourselves why, once again, they are trying to postpone the final verdict. As an association, we will continue to support the family tormented by pain; this cumbersome system will not stop us". He doesn't hide his discontent Elena Ronzullo: “After almost 11 years of ordeal in the corridors of the courthouse Napoli, I would have expected the conclusion I had hoped for. Unfortunately, it did not go that way and I hope that the first-instance sentence will be confirmed. It is unacceptable that parents, already sentenced to life imprisonment of pain, should suffer further injustices in public courtrooms”. Great disappointment for Biagio Ciaramella: “We believe that this never-ending series of hearings is truly unbearable and unnerving for the victims’ families. Hearing the same speeches in trials from insurance lawyers, who push to prove the victims of road deaths wrong, gives us the image of a system that doesn’t work. I felt offended by what was said in a trial today by an insurance lawyer, who, despite wanting to point out the presence of potholes along the stretch of road he was trying to litigate, maintained that the deceased was responsible. This statement clashes with our fight for the healthy use of the proceeds from Article 208. If municipalities followed our advice, many human lives would be saved and useless trials against road victims would disappear from the courts.”
