Waste in Pianura and Soccavo, the IX Municipality: "Health and hygiene risk, we will alert the Prefecture"

"Waste collection in the peripheral areas has now completely gotten out of hand for the Municipality of Naples and Asìa. For several weeks our territory has been dotted with mega-landfills that in many cases make it impossible to even walk on the sidewalks. While the suburbs are one step away from a health emergency, the Municipality continues to deliberately ignore entire neighborhoods that are abandoned to the most squalid degradation. In Soccavo and Pianura the collection is paralyzed and the constant reassurances from the top management of Asìa no longer convince us".

These are the statements of the president of the IX Municipality Lorenzo Giannalavigna who commented on the serious state of crisis that has gripped the territory of Soccavo-Pianura for weeks. The huge piles of waste now occupy entire portions of the road and grow day after day. At the same time, the risk that citizens, increasingly exasperated, take to the streets for sensational forms of protest is growing.

“This situation is unacceptable,” Giannalavigna continued, “just as it is unacceptable that the attention of the municipal administration is concentrated entirely on the historic center, which is also experiencing a difficult situation from the point of view of waste collection. The citizens of Soccavo and Pianura are Neapolitans just like the citizens of Vomero or Via Toledo and have the right to see their streets clean. Palazzo San Giacomo and the top management of Asìa do nothing but point the finger at the citizens, accusing them of being the only ones responsible for this situation. If it is true that there are many uncivilized behaviors that absolutely must be opposed,” the number one of the IX Municipality continues, “why don’t we start seriously talking about responsibilities at a management level that hang over those who manage the entire waste collection chain? As a Municipality we are abandoned to our fate and we are very concerned about the maintenance of public order. From this point of view,” Giannalavigna concluded, “we will alert the Prefecture as soon as possible.”
